EUGENE – The Umpqua men’s basketball team reached the championship game of the Dale J Bates Invitational at Lane Community College with a pair of big wins over New Hope Christian and Lower Columbia on Friday and Saturday.

The RiverHawks went to double-overtime on Sunday in the title game against Spokane, but fell short in a 107-102 loss to the Bigfoot.

Ethan Betts hit a three-pointer with one second left in regulation to tie the game at 79 and force the first overtime. The sophomore then made a lay-in with six seconds left in overtime to tie the game again and send the game to another extra period.

Betts finished with 28 points. Eric Klekas scored 30 points to lead the RiverHawks and Connor Shaw added 23. Former South Umpqua Lancer Cody Gray finished with a game-high 17 rebounds.

The RiverHawks will next play in the Tacoma Crossover Tournament starting Friday.
