CLACKAMAS – The Umpqua women’s basketball team improved to 4-0 on the year with a 72-67 win over Clackamas Community College on Sunday at the Clackamas Thanksgiving Invitational.
The Lady RiverHawks built an 18-point lead in the first quarter and milked it the rest of the game for the victory. Clackamas actually outscored Umpqua 57-44 over the final three quarters, but it wasn’t enough for the comeback win.
Taylor Stricklin scored a season-high 21 points to lead UCC. She made five 3-pointers and went 6-of-17 from the floor. Jordan Stotler, Bria Thames, and Daisy Powell each recorded their second double-double of the year. Stotler had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Thames had 14 points and 15 rebounds and Powell had 16 points and 16 rebounds.
The Umpqua starters accounted for all but one of the points scored for the RiverHawks. Merrily Jones scored one point in 14 minutes off the bench.
Sutherlin graduates Kayce and Ricki Mock both started for Clackamas and led the Cougars in scoring. Kayce finished with 17 points and older sister Ricki added 14 points and 10 rebounds.
In other games from the Clackamas Tournament, the RiverHawks won 99-53 over Olympic on Friday. UCC then won 98-53 over Southwestern Oregon Community College on Saturday.
The Umpqua women will next take the court on Friday at the Bellevue Bulldog Classic.
