REDMOND – The 1A state volleyball championship tournament did not start the way that either North Douglas or Days Creek had hoped for. Both teams were the top-seed in their match-up, but neither team was able to advance to the semifinals.
Top-seed North Douglas face 8-seed Joseph in the quarterfinals. The Eagles won the match in straight sets, narrowly edging out the Warriors in the first two sets before winning more comfortably in the third.
The set scores were 25-22, 25-21, 25-17.
The 4-seed Days Creek Wolves squared off with 5-seed Hosanna Christian, but the match was over quickly as the Lions won 3-0.
The set scores were 25-13, 25-17, 25-15.
North Douglas and Days Creek will now face off in a consolation semifinal match, Saturday at 10 a.m. The winner will move on to the fourth place game and the loser is done for the year. North Douglas has beaten Days Creek two times in three meetings, both wins came in five sets. Days Creek’s lone win against North Douglas was a 3-0 sweep.
