PORTLAND – The Portland Trail Blazers extended their NBA-record winning streak in home opening games with a 103-93 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans Tuesday night at the Moda Center. The Blazers have now won 17 consecutive home openers, dating back to the 2001-2002 season.

Portland scored the final nine points of the game to pull-away for the win. CJ McCollum scored 16 of his team-high 23 points in fourth quarter to help Portland earn what he described as an ugly win.

“We’ve got to do a better job of starting off with more intensity,” McCollum said in a post game interview. “We didn’t push the pace. We were walking the ball. We were very sluggish, but I’m glad we were able to come away with a win.”

Ed Davis added 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Portland’s bench, which made big contributions while the starters struggled in the first half.

The Blazers are now 3-1 on the year and will host the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday.
