ROSEBURG – The Roseburg boys soccer team clinched a fourth place finish in the Southwest Conference Thursday by virtue of Willamette losing to North Medford. The loss means the Wolverines will not be able to catch the Indians with one league game left to play.

The Indians finish the regular season on Saturday against Sheldon. After that, Roseburg will head to the first round of the state playoffs, where the Tribe will likely hit the road. This will be the first state playoff game for Roseburg boys soccer since 2012. The team took part in a play-in game in 2013, but lost and missed out on the state playoffs. The playoffs begin Oct. 28.

The South Umpqua girls soccer team clinched a third place finish in the Far West League with a 4-1 win over Coquille on Thursday. Senior Tiona Eggert put the Lancers up 1-0 in the first half and Jenna Castro made it 2-0 early in the second half. Hannah Lowell and Jadyn Vermillion each scored late in the game to put the contest out of reach.

The Lady Lancers will head to a play-in game with a shot to win and advance to the first round of the state playoffs. Prior to beginning the post season, South Umpqua will finish the regular season with a non-league game against Illinois Valley next Tuesday.

The Skyline League volleyball playoffs also got underway on Thursday.

Elkton and Days Creek both advanced through the first day of the tournament. Elkton swept Glendale and Camas Valley to move through the tournament bracket. Meanwhile, Days Creek only had to win once and had no issues in a 3-0 win over New Hope Christian, which knocked Yoncalla out of the tournament in an earlier match to advance and face the Wolves.

Elkton and Days Creek now move on to face regular season division winners North Douglas and Powers. Days Creek faces Powers in one semifinal match-up and Elkton takes on top-ranked North Douglas in the other. The games will be played Saturday at Grants Pass High School.
