MEDFORD – Roseburg’s Stephen Lake scored two goals, including the winning goal in the second half, and the RHS boys soccer team defeated North Medford 5-4 Tuesday night.

The Indians got goals from Lake, Jayden Bangs and Jacob Wilson in the first half and went to the break tied 3-3 with the Black Tornado. Tanner Reber put Roseburg ahead in the second half, but it was Lake’s goal in the 61st minute that broke a 4-4 tie and put the Indians in front for good.

The victory is huge for Roseburg’s playoff hopes. The win puts all the pressure on fifth place Willamette in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot out of the Southwest Conference.

If the fourth place Indians win or tie their final match against Sheldon on Saturday, they’ll clinch a playoff spot. Willamette would have to win its final two games and have Roseburg lose to Sheldon in order to pass the Indians for fourth place. If the two teams finish with identical records, Roseburg holds the head-to-head tiebreaker.

The Roseburg boys end the regular season at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. against the Sheldon Irish.
