SUTHERLIN – The Sutherlin Bulldogs couldn’t get any offense going against a tough Sweet Home defense and fell 40-8 against the Huskies on a foggy Friday night in Sutherlin.

Turnovers again plagued the Bulldogs. An interception led to the first Husky touchdown giving the visitors the ball on the Sutherlin 26 and four plays later Hayden McDonald ran it in from 11-yards out to make it 7-0.

Then on the first play of the second quarter, the Bulldogs fumbled and the Huskies drove from the Sutherlin 44 and had fourth and goal at the one. The Bulldogs defense had McDonald stopped at the one but he pitched it back to quarterback Colton Smith who had an easy touchdown to make it 14-0.

In the second half, the fog covered the field. The Bulldogs had the ball on their own 13 when a bad snap went by Cade Meisner into the end zone and Sweet Home recovered for the touchdown to make it 20-0.

Sweet Home (3-1,5-1) scored a few minutes later on a long pass play that the fans couldn’t see because of the fog, when Smith threw to Keegan Holly for 71 yards and it turned into a rout.

Sutherlin (1-3, 2-5) finally got a score with 19 seconds left when Meisner went seven yards for the score.

Meisner completed 10 of 22 passes for 99 yards and two interceptions and Tristan Vincent caught four passes for 57 yards.

Sutherlin will finish the league season at Cottage Grove Friday.
