ROSEBURG – The Roseburg football team celebrated eight seniors prior to kickoff against South Medford on Friday night, but that proved to be about all the celebrating the Indians would do in a 51-0 loss against the Panthers.

South Medford racked up the most points against the Indians this season and put the game away early in the second half to set up a showdown between the Panthers and Sheldon next week to determine the Southwest Conference title. Both teams enter with undefeated conference records. South Medford beat Sheldon 41-20 last year to win the SWC title.

The Panthers set up their first score on a blocked field goal attempt. Roseburg set up for a 35-yard kick by Stephen Lake, but Trent Snyder snuck through the line to get a hand on the ball. The ricochet went directly to linebacker Evan Dallas, who returned the ball 76 yards to set up first and goal from the Roseburg 5.

Two plays later South Medford was in the end zone. Running back Jaylin Parnell got the first of three rushing touchdowns to put the Panthers on the board. He would finish with 100 yards on 11 carries.

Roseburg only trailed 7-0 going to the second quarter, but the Panthers started to put some distance between the two teams quickly. Quarterback Robbie Patterson connected with Jaalen Owens from 22-yards out for his only passing touchdown of the night. The extra point put South up 14-0 with 9:42 to go before half.

Peyton Shipley recovered a fumble by Garrett Russell on the ensuing Roseburg drive and returned it 59 yards for a score to make it 21-0. Another Parnell TD made it 28-0 at the half.

Parnell scored for the final time on an 11 yard weave through the Roseburg defense to put South Medford up 35-0 less than three minutes into the second half. Terrence Butler scored two rushing touchdowns for South to help put the Panthers over 50 points for a third time this season.

Roseburg had three drives into the red zone, but failed to capitalize each time. Collin Warmouth threw for over 160 yards but had two interceptions. Doran Gillespie led Roseburg on the ground, rushing for 45 yards on 16 carries.

The Indians will try to bounce back next week when they visit Willamette for their SWC finale. Roseburg still could reach the postseason as an at-large team, but will need to rise in the OSAA rankings to do so. A win against the Wolverines and against North Salem in the season finale could be enough to get the Indians in.

Roseburg and Willamette will kickoff Friday at 7 p.m. in Eugene. Tune in for coverage on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score or watch online at 541radio.com.
