WINSTON – The South Umpqua girls soccer team jumped back into third place in the Far West League standings with a 2-1 win over county rival Douglas on Tuesday.

All of the scoring came in the second half. The Lancers started with a goal by Jadyn Vermillion in the 50th minute. Douglas tied the game in the 73rd minute on a penalty kick, but it was Mariah Herrera’s goal in the 78th minute that was the difference maker.

The Lady Lancers have a shot at a play-in game as the No. 3 seed out of the Far West. There’s still a ways to go, though, for South Umpqua. There are three league games left on the schedule, starting with fifth place Marshfield on Thursday.
