MEDFORD – The Roseburg volleyball team is still just one win away from securing a berth in the first round of the 6A state playoffs after the Indians fell shy of a win against South Medford Tuesday night.
The Panthers won the final two sets in a five-set marathon held on South Medford’s home floor and won 3-2 (25-16, 14-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11). Roseburg opened the match with a loss, but rallied to claim victory in the next two sets. The momentum didn’t last and the Tribe fell short of clinching a playoff berth with two league games left to play.
The good news is that Roseburg is still in third place and can clinch a playoff berth with a win in either of its final two conference games of the year. Up next, the Indians will face South Eugene on Thursday.
The South Umpqua volleyball team remained in a tie for first place with Marshfield in the Far West League after both teams won Tuesday night. The Lady Lancers took down a winless Brookings-Harbor team, 3-0. Meanwhile, the Pirates swept Douglas in Winston last night to keep pace with South Umpqua.
The two teams have one league game left to play to hopefully determine the league championship. South Umpqua finishes the Far West League schedule with a home game against Siuslaw on Thursday.
