ROSEBURG – It hasn’t been the start to the conference season that the Umpqua Community College volleyball team had been hoping for. But the RiverHawks got a much-needed victory over Southwestern Oregon on Wednesday to wrap up the first half of the conference slate.

Felicia Sparks and Margaret Anderson each had six kills to lead the RiverHawks to a 3-0 sweep of the Lakers. UCC won by its biggest margin in the first set with a 25-19 victory, but then edged out a 25-21 win in set two and finished off the sweep with a 25-20 triumph in set three.

Kyrie Keffer had 22 digs to lead the RiverHawks on defense and Cara Windsor chipped three blocked shots at the net.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the RiverHawks, who improve to 2-5 in conference games. Southwestern Oregon is now 0-7 in the South Region.

Up next for UCC is a match at Clark College on Friday, October 13.
