MYRTLE CREEK – The South Umpqua volleyball team swept county rival Douglas 3-0 on Tuesday to move into second place in the Far West League. The Lady Lancers (7-6; 5-2 FWL) got contributions from all over the floor. Shalyn Gray had 11 kills, Kalie Mann had four blocks, Jenna Whitmore had 17 digs, and Sydnie Johnson had 32 assists.
Up next, the Lancers will host Marshfield on Thursday. South Umpqua trails the Pirates by one game in the league standings and a win would create a tie for first place. The Lady Lancers previously lost to Marshfield 3-2 on September 19 in Coos Bay.
The Roseburg (8-5; 5-3 SWC) volleyball team suffered its third defeat in conference play Tuesday, losing in straight sets to conference leader Sheldon. The loss drops the Indians into third place in the standings and 2.5 games behind the Irish for the title. Roseburg will travel to Grants Pass for its next contest on Thursday.
Sutherlin moved into a tie for third in the Sky-Em League volleyball standings with a 3-2 win over Junction City Tuesday night. The two sides traded victories back-and-forth throughout the match, but in the fifth set the Bulldogs came out on top with a 15-9 score. Sutherlin (9-6; 3-3 Sky-Em) will take on league leader Sisters on Thursday.
The top-ranked North Douglas volleyball team defeated Camas Valley 3-0 in a battle of division leaders on Tuesday. The Warriors remained undefeated atop the Skyline North division, while Camas Valley fell to 5-3 in league games, but remained in first in the Skyline South.
