BANDON – The South Umpqua girls cross country team had runners finish second through fifth and the Lady Lancers won the team title at the Bandon Invitational on Tuesday.
Junior Aneykah McCall placed second overall with a time of 22:27.95 to lead the Lady Lancers. She was a little more than 2.5 minutes behind first place finisher Sailor Hutton from Bandon.
Savannah Slay took third for South Umpqua, Bethany Kalebaugh finished fourth, and freshman Haven Pickup finished fifth. The Lancers’ runners all finished within about a minute and a half of each other.
The South Umpqua boys team took second in the competition. Nakai Sinahoui finished first for the Lancers with a time of 18:24.94, which was good enough for fourth place.
Up next for the Lancers is the Paul Mariman Invitational at Philomath High School on October 7.
The Roseburg cross country teams is headed to Medford for the Southwest Conference Preview race on Wednesday. All six teams from the Southwest Conference will be there to compete. The race was originally scheduled for earlier in the year, but was rescheduled due to poor air quality.
The Indians are at the midway point of the season and have five more races on the schedule before the conference championships on October 25. The SWC Preview races get started at 3:45 p.m. with the girl’s freshman and sophomore competition.
