FLORENCE – The South Umpqua volleyball team fell out of first place in the Far West League after letting a league contest at Siuslaw get away Tuesday night. The Lady Lancers pulled ahead with victories in the first two sets of the match, but the Vikings rallied to win the final three sets.
The collapse for South Umpqua drops the Lancers into a tie with Siuslaw for third place in the league standings.
Shalyn Gray had 16 kills, 14 digs, and two blocks for South Umpqua. Jenna Whitmore added 12 kills and 21 digs and Sydnie Johnson had 47 assists in the match.
South Umpqua could work its way back into the conversation for the league title when the Lancers visit North Bend on Thursday. North Bend is tied with Marshfield for the best record in the Far West.
