ROSEBURG – The Roseburg Indians scored early and often and ran away with a 42-6 win over the South Eugene Axemen in a Southwest Conference game on Friday night.

The Indians (2-2; 1-1 SWC) scored on five on their six drives in the first half to build a 35-0 lead at the break. Collin Warmouth connected with Brandon Jeffers from 18-yards out on the opening drive of the game to put Roseburg up 7-0. It was the first of two TD passes for the junior quarterback. Warmouth later found Alex Reynaga open on a similar play to score from 17-yards out.

Senior Brendan Ibarra had his biggest night offensively for Roseburg. The slot back scored on two running plays. The first came midway through the first quarter when Ibarra broke free for a 34-yard score. He added an 11-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Ibarra finished with 77 yards rushing.

Sophomore running back Doran Gillespie also had two rushing scores against the Axemen. The first came just before the half from the one yard line. Garrett Russell caught a 42-yard pass and was brought down just shy of the end zone. Gillespie powered the ball across the goal line to give Roseburg a 35-point advantage going to the locker rom.

In the second half, Gillespie showed off his speed and elusiveness with a 56-yard TD run for his third on the season. The sophomore had 20 carries for a team-high 93 yards.

South Eugene (1-3; 0-2 SWC) got it’s only score of the night to begin the fourth quarter. Quarterback Bryce Boettcher dropped a perfect pass into the arms of Malcom Yates for a 20-yard score, but the Axemen failed to convert the two-point try.

Roseburg’s biggest struggle during the contest was the officials. The Indians racked up 19 penalties in the game, most coming in the second half when Roseburg led by a wide margin. Roseburg finished with 159 penalty yards.

The Roseburg defense came up big at multiple junctions in the game. Zack Mandera and Carson Ellis were routinely in the backfield disrupting plays and making stops. Mandera made five tackles behind the line of scrimmage and the Indians recorded four sacks as a team.

The Indians also recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter, but also turned the ball over twice with interceptions.

Up next, Roseburg will face the Sheldon Irish on Friday night in Eugene. Sheldon improved to 4-0 on the year with a 35-7 win over North Medford. Kickoff time on September 29 will be 7 p.m. from Sheldon High School. Follow the game with CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score or watch online at 541radio.com.
