EUGENE –  The Roseburg volleyball team moved into second place in the Southwest Conference with a 3-1 win over South Eugene on Thursday. The Indians started slow, losing the opening set 25-17, but the Tribe rolled from there, beating the Axemen 25-17, 25-19, 25-19.

The win moves the Indians ahead of South Eugene for second place in the conference behind Sheldon. Roseburg is now 3-1 in conference games.

Up next for Roseburg will be a home conference match against the Willamette Wolverines on Tuesday.

The South Umpqua volleyball team got revenge for last year’s struggles against county rival Douglas on Thursday. The Lady Lancers swept their first meeting with the Trojans while playing on Douglas’ home court in Winston.

South Umpqua opened with a couple of comfortable victories, but earned the sweep with a narrow 25-23 victory in the third set.

The Lancers are now 2-0 in Far West League play. Douglas drops to 1-1.

In the Sky-Em League, the Sutherlin volleyball team swept Junction City to win its league opener. The Bulldogs cruised past the Tigers in the first set, but narrowly edged out a victory with 25-20 scores in the second and third.
