The Umpqua Community College volleyball team won two of five matches over the weekend at the Clackamas Preseason Tournament at Clackamas Community College.

The RiverHawks went 1-2 on Friday, picking up a 2-0 win over South Puget Sound, but losing to Columbia Basin and Centralia.

UCC closed out its weekend with a win and a loss on Saturday. The RiverHawks got a 3-1 win over Clackamas in their first match. Felicia Sparks got 15 kills for Umpqua and had 14 digs. Madison Becker recorded all 44 assists for UCC in the win. Umpqua finished the weekend with its second loss to Centralia.

Up next, the RiverHawks begin conference play with a home match against Clark College on Friday.

The Umpqua men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in a 6.2 kilometer race at Western Oregon University in Monmouth on Saturday. Roseburg grads Cooper Lee and Jenna Anderson were the first runners across the finish line for UCC. Lee finished 99th overall in the men’s race with a time of 24:10.9. Anderson placed 57th in the women’s race and was just under 2.5 minutes behind the first place finisher.

The UCC men placed 13th in the competition and the Umpqua women didn’t have enough members to enter as a team.
