The high school football season begins Thursday for the Glide Wildcats and North Douglas Warriors, who will both travel towards the coast for the first games of the year.

While most prep football teams will begin the regular season on Friday, Thursday is the first day that high school teams can officially hold regular season contests. Last week many teams participated in scrimmages and jamborees to get a taste of the regular season.

The Glide Wildcats will visit Bandon for their season opener at 7 p.m. Thursday. Last year the Wildcats downed Bandon 33-8 to begin the year. Glide finished the season 4-5 last year and just missed the post season. Head coach Jody Doty will try to get the Wildcats back in the playoffs this year.

The North Douglas Warriors will begin their season at Powers. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 4 p.m. Thursday. The Warriors lost 42-22 against the Cruisers last year in the season opener and head coach JJ Mast will try to get his squad to start the year on a better foot.

Both contests will be keeping a close eye on the weather. Bandon and Powers are in the area of some of the major wildfires burning in Southern Oregon and if conditions change, poor air quality could affect when and if the games get played.
