UMPQUA BASIN – The local fall sports season is about to kickoff. High school practices for football, volleyball, soccer, and cross country get started on Monday next week.
For all sports but football, the regular season gets underway in less than two weeks after practices start, so teams will be cramming in the preparations before they take the fields, courts, and courses for their first contests of the year. High school football games will get underway the following week, with most varsity teams starting the year on September 1.
It’s not just high school sports that are getting underway. Jo Lane and Fremont Middle Schools will begin practices for fall sports on August 21. Parents can contact the schools for more details on practice times and registration. (Fremont: 541-440-4055; Jo Lane: 541-440-4105)
The Umpqua United Soccer Club still has registration open for local youth soccer players. The deadline to register is August 16th. The organization also needs coaches for the youth teams. Find more details about registering to play or coach with the Umpqua United Soccer Club online at RoseburgSoccer.org.
