EUGENE – The Roseburg Pepsi Bottlecaps suffered their first defeat of the American Legion Class A NW Regional in an 11-7 loss to Post 87 from Layton, Utah on Sunday night in Eugene.

The Bottlecaps tied the game 7-7 in the bottom of the eighth inning, but Utah sprang to life in the ninth, scoring four runs to pull ahead. Pepsi managed to get just one runner on base in their final at bats and couldn’t muster a comeback.

Jett Black went 3-for-5 to lead Pepsi at the plate. Jonathan Stone added two hits for Roseburg. Both players finished with an RBI as well. Brody Black also went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Pepsi started the NW Regional with wins over the defending regional champs from Montana on Friday and the current Oregon state champ North Willamette Valley on Saturday. Now with one loss, the Bottlecaps are on the brink of elimination.

Roseburg is one of only four teams remaining in the tournament. Up next, the Bottlecaps will face the Cody Cubs of Wyoming in a loser out game Monday at 2 p.m. If Pepsi wins, the team will advance to play for the championship on Tuesday. The Bottlecaps would have to win twice on Tuesday to claim the tournament championship.
