ROSEBURG – The Roseburg Pepsi Bottlecaps are gearing up to begin play in Eugene at the American Legion Class A Northwest Regional on Friday. The ‘Caps finished second at the Oregon State Tournament last week to secure a spot in the 8-team regional for the first time since 2009.
The Bottlecaps drew the Montana state champions in the first round of the tournament on Friday. The Bitterroot Red Sox made an undefeated run through the Monatana tournament to win the state title for a third year in a row. The Red Sox have also won the Northwest Regional tournament the past two years and will try to make it a three-peat over the next week in Eugene.
Pepsi heads for Eugene Thursday afternoon and will stay up north for the duration of their tournament run. Roseburg is looking to win its first Northwest Regional title since 1988, when the team won its second title after winning the regional tournament for the first time in 1986.
The Northwest Regional includes Oregon state champion North Willamette Valley, which defeated Pepsi twice at the state tournament last week. Other regional teams will travel from Idaho, Wyoming, Alaska, and Utah. Find the tournament schedule HERE.
The Pepsi Bottlecaps and Bitterroot Red Sox will take the field at Swede Johnson Stadium for a first round game Friday at 12:30 p.m.
