MEDFORD – The Roseburg summer fastpitch softball team battled blazing temperatures in Medford late Wednesday morning to stay hot and win their 19th straight game. The Indians defeated San Marcos of California 8-5 to go 2-0 in pool play at the ASA Western National Championship tournament.

A Madysn Blevins two-run homer in the fifth inning helped break things open for Roseburg. The Indians trailed 2-1 entering the frame, but put up five runs to take a 6-2 advantage. Blevins finished the game with three RBI to lead the Indians offensively.

Roseburg added another two runs on a Kaliegh Mann double in the sixth and held on for the win. Maria Bacigalupo also added a double and two RBI for Roseburg and Alexa Ligon drove in a run as well.

Nicki Derrick pitched the complete game to earn the victory. She gave up 10 hits over six innings. The game ended after the sixth due to the designated time limit.

Roseburg started the tournament with a 10-2 win over Sacramento’s EG Stealth on Tuesday.

The Indians now move into bracket play at the tournament. They will play against Magic Valley of Idaho at 11 a.m. on Thursday at US Cellular Field in Medford. Roseburg will play again at 8 p.m. Thursday against an opponent to be determined.
