BEND, ORE. – Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen had a big announcement after practice in Bend on Tuesday in regards to the three-man battle for the starting quarterback job . Junior college transfer Jake Luton has been named the starter behind center for the Beavers after less than a week of fall camp practices.

Luton transferred to OSU from Ventura Community College, where he was an All-American and set school records for passing yards and passing touchdowns. Last year Luton threw for 3,551 yards and 40 touchdowns.

Darrell Garretson and Marcus McMaryion will both serve as backups to start the year after starting games last year for the Beavers. Coach Andersen made it clear that he expects all three to continue working hard because there’s a good chance it will take more than one quarterback to complete the season.

“We know we’re going to need multiple quarterbacks, potentially, as the year goes on. I think those kids will definitely accept their role. They want to be first team. All three want to be the starter,” Andersen said.

The Oregon State Beavers will begin the season August 26th at Colorado State. Follow the Beavers on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score.
