AURORA, ORE. – The Roseburg Pepsi Bottlecaps advanced to the semifinals of the American Legion Single-A State Tournament with a 13-3 win over North Coos in six innings Friday afternoon.

The Bottlecaps scored in every inning to stretch an early lead and capped off the victory with Spencer Six two-run homer that gave Pepsi a 10-run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Roseburg compiled 14 hits against two North Coos pitchers. The top four in the lineup did most of the heavy lifting, going 9-for-16, with six RBI and eight runs scored. Doran Gillespie led the way with three hits, including a double. Six, Garrett Russell, and Brody Black each finished with two hits.

North Coos took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Pepsi tied the game on an RBI single by Gillespie in the bottom half of the inning.

Jace Stoffal stifled the Waterfront offense the rest of the contest to earn the complete game victory. He surrendered just three runs on five hits, while striking out five and walking one.

The loss for North Coos ends the season for the Waterfront. Pepsi moves on to face La Grande, which lost 11-0 to North Willamette Valley Friday night. The Bottlecaps and Legends will square off at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The winner will move on to championship Sunday and the loser will be eliminated from the tournament.
