AURORA, ORE. – The American Legion baseball season came to an end Thursday for the Umpqua Lions in a 13-1 loss in five innings against South Medford at the Single-A state tournament.
The Colts jumped out to a 7-0 lead on four hits in the first inning and cruised from there on. A 3-run double by Jaalen Owens in the fourth inning put South Medford up by double-digits and the Colts added another run to lead 13-0 going to the top of the fifth with a chance to end the game early.
Umpqua’s Noah Burke reached base with a walk in the fifth and scored on a double by Zack Holland, but that was the only run of the game for the Lions. Holland finished the day 2-for-3 and CJ Gale had the only other hit for Umpqua.
The Lions finish the season with a 14-16 record and went 0-2 at the state tournament.
