FARGO, ND – Roseburg graduate Haydn Maley went undefeated in the 2017 Junior Greco-Roman National Championships to follow up last year’s title with another this year.
Maley, who won a title at 195-pounds a year ago in Fargo, North Dakota, claimed the 220-pound title on Sunday with a 16-4 win over Darrell Mason from Illinois. As the top-seed, Maley dominated the bracket. Maley was asked after his championship if he plans to continue competing in Greco-Roman in the future.
“My goal and dream is to be an Olympic champion in Greco,” said Maley. The Stanford-bound wrestler is next headed to an Olympic training camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
It was an overall successful trip to the FargoDome for Maley. Prior to winning his Greco-Roman title, Maley finished runner-up in the Junior Freestyle competition earlier in the week.
