The Indians won 11-4 against Vengence in the championship game to win the NAFA Northwestern Championship Tournament.

NEWBERG, ORE. – The Indian fastpitch summer softball team beat a Portland-area squad for the 2017 NAFA Northwestern Championship in Newberg on Sunday.

The Indians went undefeated in the tournament, capped off with an 11-4 win in the championship game. Madysn Blevins hit a two-run homer and was the winning pitcher to help lead the way for the Indians.

The Roseburg-area team scored 57 runs (8.1 runs per game) over seven games during the 19-team tournament. The Indians countered that with only seven runs allowed.

Kalie Mann, from South Umpqua High School, was selected the tournament MVP. Others to receive All-Tournament recognition were Blevins, Katie Ladd, Maria Bacigalupo, Mackenzie Norton, and Shalyn Gray.

The Indians will wrap-up their summer next week in the ASA Western National Championships in Medford. The tournament will feature over 20 teams from Oregon, Washington, Northern California, Idaho, Colorado, and Hawaii. The brackets run July 31 through August 6.
