QUAD CITIES, ILL. – Local disc golfer Raymond Hernandez reached the semifinals of the Junior Disc Golf World Championships on Saturday, but fell short of reaching the finals to finish tied for ninth out of 36 competitors.

The Roseburg native shot 19-under par for the tournament, but was 14 strokes away from reaching the finals, where the top four competitors in the Junior boys division played for the title. The champion was Evan Bamford from North Carolina, who shot 45-under par to win the title.

This year’s performance fell slightly lower than Hernandez’s finish last year. In the same division, Hernandez placed sixth overall. The World Championships were held in Quad Cities, Illinois.
