FARGO, ND – Roseburg High graduates Haydn Maley and Austin Harris both earned All-American status at the Junior Freestyle National Championships this week in Fargo, North Dakota. The pair both placed in the top eight of their weight class, but neither walked away with the result they wanted in their final match.
Maley was undefeated and reached the title bout at 220-pounds, but he was upset in the final by Zach Elam of Missouri. Elam won the title 14-4 over Maley.
Harris fell into the consolation bracket in the 182-pound weight class, but fought back to make it to the 7th place bout. Harris was defeated by Victor Marcelli of Ohio, 14-5.
Up next, six Roseburg wrestlers will stay in Fargo to begin wrestling in the Junior Greco-Roman National Champions on Thursday. Maley and Harris will be joined by fellow Roseburg teammates Hunter Sparks, Devin Folk, Austin David, and Matt McDowell. Maley won the 195-pound Greco-Roman national championship last year.
Three Roseburg wrestlers are competing in the Cadet Greco-Roman National Championship in Fargo. Hunter Blix, Rourke Martin, and Mason Labahn all fell into the consolation brackets Wednesday morning.
