SALEM – The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s kept even with the Salem Withnell Dodgers through much of Saturday’s nonleague contest, but the Dodgers pulled ahead in the sixth inning and kept the Doc’s scoreless to win 10-7.

The Doc’s (13-20; 7-9 A4) pulled ahead with two runs in the first inning on a couple of errors by the Dodgers. Salem wasted no time in tying the score. The Dodgers put two runs across home on a passed ball and a two-out double.

Withnell (23-13; 6-6 A3) took its first lead in the third when Tanner Sorenson drew a bases loaded walk from Doc’s starter Kyler Leischner. The Dodgers added another run to lead 4-2 after three innings.

Salem starter Kyle McAlister struggled to find the strike zone in the fourth inning and allowed the Doc’s to tie the game. Matt Gibson reached base on his first of three walks on the day and later scored on a wild pitch. McAlister later issued four straight walks with two outs and the game was tied 4-4.

The Dodgers retook the lead again in the bottom of the fourth. A two-out double by Max Long scored two runs to put Salem in front 7-4.

It didn’t take the Doc’s long to tie the game for a third time. In the top of the fifth, Roseburg took advantage of two throwing errors by reliever Nick Orlandini and evened the game at 7-7.

That would be the last of the scoring for the Doc’s, who managed just one hit after the fifth inning. Salem took the lead for good in the sixth on another two-out double, this time by Tori Doten. The Dodgers added two more runs in the eighth to stretch their lead to 10-7.

Trevor Mehlhoff suffered the loss after coming on in relief of Leischner. He gave up four runs on five hits over four innings of work.

Andrew Harrington had two hits to lead the Doc’s at the plate. Gibson scored two runs and drew three walks.

Up next, the Doc’s will finish the regular season with four league games, starting with a doubleheader at home against the Grants Pass Nuggets on Sunday. Roseburg is on the bubble for a playoff spot and will most likely need to win two games on Tuesday against Willamette Valley to keep the season going.

The Doc’s play their final regular season home games against the Nuggets Sunday night at 6 p.m. Tune in for coverage on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score or watch online at 541radio.com.
