ROSEBURG – An unfortunate trend reared its ugly head once again for the Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s on Thursday when the team dropped another game by just a one-run margin.

The visiting Corvallis Gerding Builders Marketmen scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning of a nonleague game against Roseburg and held off the Doc’s in the ninth to win 3-2 at Legion Field.

The Stewies took a 2-0 lead with runs in the second and third innings. Matt Gibson drove in a run in the second with a sacrifice fly and Trevens tacked on another run with a two-out single in the third.

Roseburg starter Wryland McKnight held Corvallis scoreless through the first six innings. He struck out a season-high six batters and pitched out of numerous jams with runners in scoring position.

Yet, in the seventh inning, McKnight was lifted after giving up a leadoff single to Franklin Leonard. Brett Jackson entered the game and four batters later gave up a sacrifice fly that put the Marketmen on the board. The run was tallied to McKnight and it was the only run he surrendered.

Corvallis (23-4) tied the game in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by James Peterson and a two-out single by Blaise Sims gave the Marketmen the lead. Both runs were attributed to Jackson, who suffered the loss for Roseburg (13-19).

The Doc’s had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth when Andrew Harrington led off with a double. He advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Luke Lucido, but he was left standing 90-feet from home as Corvallis reliever Kyle Killen got a pop-out and a ground-out to secure the win.

The Dr. Stewart’s are now 5-5 over their last 10 games and all five losses have been by one-run.

Up next, the Doc’s head to Salem on Saturday to face the Withnell Dodgers for a nonleague nine inning contest. The game begins at 1 p.m. from Willamette University. Coverage begins at 12:45 p.m. on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score or watch online at 541radio.com.
