ROSEBURG – The Umpqua Lions baseball team managed to pull out a split in a league doubleheader against Hidden Valley at Legion Field Monday night.

The Lions (11-9; 11-7 A4N) dropped game one 9-1, but scored late to pick up a 7-5 win in game two.

Hidden Valley rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the nightcap to take a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning. Despite giving up the lead, Umpqua rallied to score three runs on five walks and two errors in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the win.

The Lions still have sole possession of second place in the Area 4 North league standings, but it’s by a slim margin. Their next game is a nonleague contest against North Medford at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
