MEDFORD – The Indian Fastpitch 16U softball team battled back from the loser’s bracket to win five-straight games and claim the 2017 ASA state championship in Medford on Sunday.

The Indians lost on Saturday in the double-elimination tournament, but the team rallied to win three games Sunday morning and made it to the finals against an undefeated Crater team. Needing to win twice against the Comets, the Indians took game one and then claimed the title with a 7-3 victory.

In the final, Katie Ladd hit a 3-run homer to put the Indians in front for good. Shayln Gray and Madysn Blevins each added two hits in the championship game. Blevins was also the winning pitcher, striking out three and walking one.

The girls will next play in Springfield for a Western National tune-up tournament this weekend. Then at the end of the month the team will play in the NAFA Northwestern Nationals and ASA Western Nationals in Medford.
