The Umpqua Lions single-A American Legion baseball team came away with a pair of league victories over Cascade Christian on Monday to move within a game of the Pepsi Bottlecaps for first place in the league standings.
The Lions won both games against Cascade 11-1. Umpqua finished their season series against Cascade with a 3-1 record.
Up next, the Lions will take on their local rivals the Pepsi Bottlecaps. The two teams will square off at Legion Field on Friday at 6 p.m.
The Bottlecaps suffered their second consecutive loss in a nonleague contest against North Medford on Monday. Roseburg lost 10-4 to fall to 12-4 on the year.
Pepsi will host Cascade for a league doubleheader on Thursday before taking on Umpqua on Friday.
RENEGADES BASEBALL
The Roseburg Renegades are back in the Umpqua Basin after a successful road trip over the last week that took the team through Pendleton and parts of Idaho.
The Renegades will put their undefeated league record on the line Wednesday when they host the North Eugene Red team for a doubleheader at Legion Field. Game one of the twin bill starts at 6 p.m.
