FAIRFIELD, CA. – The Roseburg Doc Stewart’s dropped to 0-3 in the Western Amateur Baseball Federation Championship Tournament with a pair of losses on Friday in Fairfield, California.

The Doc’s gave up four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to lose 5-1 against Petaluma in a morning game. Petaluma’s Shane O’Malley held the Doc’s without a hit through the first five innings, meanwhile Roseburg starter Will Shaw time-after-time found ways to get out of jams and allowed just one run on eight hits through the first five frames.

Roseburg fought back to tie the game 1-1 in the sixth inning. Brendan Ibarra scored on a wild pitch after getting beaned. The Doc’s loaded the bases with two outs in the same inning, but couldn’t score the go-ahead run.

In the home half of the sixth, Petaluma finally broke through against Shaw. He surrendered four straight hits to start the inning. All four runs came in for the Leghorns and the Doc’s couldn’t muster another rally in the seventh.

O’Malley pitched a complete game for Petaluma and allowed just three hits, while striking out seven.

The Doc’s faced Yuba City in the second game of the day, but things got out of hand in the third inning when Roseburg gave up seven runs on the way to a 16-4 loss in five innings.

Yuba City scored twice off of Doc’s starter Zack Mandera in the first inning, but the Stewies managed to take the lead with three runs in the second. Andrew Harrington drove in two of those runs with his first triple of the season.

The momentum was short lived as Yuba City sent 13 hitters to the plate in the third and scored seven runs on five hits and one Doc Stewart’s error.

Yuba City added two more runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to earn the mercy rule victory. They tallied 16 hits to just five hits for the Doc’s. Harrington finished the game 2-for-2 for the Doc’s.

The Doc Stewart’s will next take on Yakima Valley from Washington in the 7 p.m. game on Saturday night. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sport Radio 1490 The Score and online at 541radio.com. Tune in for pregame coverage starting at 6:45 p.m.
