ROSEBURG – The Umpqua Lions pulled off a sweep of South Coos on Tuesday to move back into a tie for first with the Pepsi Bottlecaps in the Area 4 North standings.

The Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning of game one and scored another five runs in the fifth to end the game early with a 10-0 victory. Payton Hope threw a 3-hit shutout and struck out five.

In game two, South Coos briefly took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Umpqua tied the game in the home half of the inning and then took the lead for good with three runs in the second. The Lions went on to win 7-2 for the sweep.

Up next, the Lions will host South Medford for a single, nine-inning game on Thursday at 5 p.m.
