FAIRFIELD, CA. – The Roseburg Doc Stewart’s scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie the score against Fairfield, but the Expos responded with three runs of their own in the seventh inning to win in the Western Amateur Baseball Federation Championship Tournament on Wednesday.

Fairfield pitcher Anthony Canavesio held the Doc’s scoreless through the first five innings, but a triple by Brenden Ibarra got the Doc’s on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Ibarra later scored on a ground ball hit by Collin Warmouth, who reached on a throwing error and later scored on a single by Luke Lucido. The three runs tied the game at 3-all going to the final frame.

The Expos got the go-ahead run in scoring position on a walk and sacrifice bunt. Centerfielder D.J. Scott drove in the winning run with a double to left field off of Doc’s starter Cody Gray. Carter Dahl came on in relief for Gray, but two batters later gave up a two-run homer to Cameron Michael, adding insurance to the Expos lead.

The Doc’s threatened in the seventh inning and had the game-tying run at the plate with two outs, but Canavesio finished off the complete game victory with his seventh strikeout of the game.

Fairfield took a 3-0 lead on the Doc’s in the first inning. Gray gave up a leadoff triple, hit a batter, and then surrendered a single to put the Expos up 1-0. Justin Banks later hit a one-out double that scored two more runs for the Expos.

After giving up three runs on four hits in the first inning, Cody Gray settled in and allowed just one hit over the next four innings. He finished with six hits allowed, five runs, four walks and one strike out.

The Doc’s now have an 0-1 record in the W. A. B. F. Champioship Tournament. The team has Thursday off before playing a doubleheader on Friday morning.
