PORTLAND – Roseburg’s Tyler Sconce highlighted a fairly successful weekend for local athletes at the USATF Oregon Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships held at Jesuit High School in Portland.
Sconce had a throw of 54 feet, 1/2 inch to win the men’s 17-18 year-old shot put title. Sconce also captured second in the discus, while Roseburg High teammate Dalton Rasmussen finished fifth. Rasmussen took third in the javelin.
Sconce and Rasmussen both will advance to the USATF Junior Olympics regional qualifier in Spokane, Washington, from July 5 to 7. They will both compete in the discus and Sconce will throw in the shot put, while Rasmussen will toss the javelin.
Also advancing to the regional qualifier are Camas Valley graduate Jazmin Wilberg, who will compete in the heptathlon, 100 hurdles and triple jump, and recent Winston Middle School graduate Mackenzii Phillips who will compete in the girls 13-14 javelin and the 100 meter hurdles.
