BEAVERTON – The Roseburg Doc Stewart’s had a three-game winning streak snapped by the Portland Barbers in an 18-8 nonleague loss Sunday at Beaverton High School.

It was a sloppy game defensively for the Doc’s, who were finishing up a three-day stretch, where the team played five games total mostly in 90-100 degree heat. The Doc’s committed six errors in the game and the pitching staff issued nine walks and hit three batters. The extra help allowed the Barbers to score a run in every inning of the contest.

Portland jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning against Roseburg’s Brett Jackson. The lefty hit the first three batters and walked the fourth hitter. All four runners eventually scored and a throwing error later allowed the fifth run to cross home.

The Doc’s took advantage of a shaky second inning by Portland starter Norman Greg. Four of the first five batters reached base by either walk or hit by pitch. The Stewies pushed three runs across and drew back within two runs.

It didn’t take the Barbers long to stretch the lead back out. Portland scored three times in the bottom of the second and continued to pull away the rest of the game. The contest ended early with two Portland runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, stretching the lead to 10 runs. The match-up was originally scheduled for a nine-inning affair.

Luke Lucido, Cody Gray, and Treven Jacks all went 2-for-3 for the Doc’s in the loss. Spencer Six added an RBI double in his only at bat. Garrett Fernandes went 3-for-3 with two doubles for Portland, which had five players with multiple hits.

The Doc Stewart’s were coming off of three straight league wins against Eugene on Friday and Saturday. It was the Doc’s longest winning streak of the season.

Up next for the Doc’s is a pair of league games against the Grants Pass Nuggets. Roseburg will travel south on Tuesday night for a twin bill starting at 6 p.m. The games can be heard on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score and can be watched online at 541radio.com.
