ROSEBURG – The Roseburg Pepsi Bottlecaps got their season underway with a doubleheader split against the Grants Pass Diggers on Friday night.

The ‘Caps rallied late in game one for a 5-4 victory, but stumbled out of the gate in game two and suffered a 5-3 loss.

Grants Pass led 3-2 after four innings of play. Pepsi scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to retake the lead for good. Doran Gillespie started the game for Roseburg and picked up the win. He scattered seven hits and allowed three runs.

The Diggers pulled ahead 4-1 in the second inning of game two and held off a late comeback attempt by the Bottlecaps for the 5-3 win.

Brody Black and Spencer Six led the effort in the nightcap. Black was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Six went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Pepsi (1-1) will next face Hidden Valley at home in a doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

The Umpqua Lions played their first doubleheader of the season Friday afternoon and picked up their first win. The Lions split a road twin bill against Hidden Valley.

Umpqua took game one 10-4, but lost the second contest 18-5. Up next for the Lions is a road doubleheader at North Coos on Monday. Game one starts at 3 p.m.

The Roseburg Renegades had a doubleheader against the Sheldon Irish postponed on Friday. The contests are begin rescheduled to a date that has not been determined.
