ROSEBURG – After a disappointing night at the ball field on Wednesday, the Roseburg Doc Stewart’s rebounded by sweeping the Fairfield Expos in a non-league doubleheader Thursday night.

The Expos, an American Legion baseball team from California, jumped out to an early lead in game one, but the Doc’s rallied to win 6-5 in their final at-bats.

Fairfield (26-13) took a 4-0 lead against Doc’s starter Trevor Mehlhoff with runs in the first and third innings and the Expos added another run in the fourth against reliever Kyler Leischner. Leischner settled in, though, and held the Expos to just two hits and no runs the rest of the game.

The Doc’s broke through against Fairfield starter Adrien Garcia in the fourth inning. Roseburg got the first two batters on base and and Luke Lucido drove in the Doc’s first run with a single to left field. A dropped fly-ball in centerfield allowed the Doc’s to score two more runs and they trailed 5-3 heading to the fifth.

Roseburg (4-4; 2-2 Area 4) tied the game in the sixth inning. Fairfield reliever Anthony Canavesio hit Zack Mandera with the bases loaded to make it a one-run game and then issued a bases loaded walk to Brenden Ibarra to tie the score. The game remained tied going to the bottom of the seventh.

With two outs and a man on second in the bottom of the seventh, Leischner landed a bloop single between three Expos defenders allowing Collin Warmouth to score the winning run. The walk-off win snapped a two-game skid for the Doc’s.

Roseburg carried the momentum into game two and scored five runs in the first inning to build a 5-1 advantage. The Expos chipped away at the lead and trailed 5-3 in the seventh inning with the bases loaded. Doc’s reliever Wryland McKnight managed to get a groundout to end the game and preserve the 2-run victory.

The Doc’s tallied 13 hits in the doubleheader, led by Warmouth who went 4-for-7 overall, including three hits in the opener. Kyler Leischner and Brett Jackson each picked up wins on the mound for the Doc’s.

Roseburg has a rare weekend off thanks to some scheduling changes. The Doc’s are back to action on Monday with a league doubleheader at home against Willamette Valley.
