ROSEBURG – What a difference a day makes. The Roseburg Doc Stewart’s went from racking up 25 hits and 31 runs in a doubleheader at Klamath Falls on Tuesday, to managing just three runs and eight hits against the Medford Mustangs Wednesday night.

Medford rolled into Legion Field on Wednesday and handed the Doc’s a 6-1 loss in the opener and a 9-2 loss in the nightcap of an Area 4 league doubleheader.

Roseburg managed to take the lead in the first inning of both contests, but the Mustangs took advantage of multiple errors in both games to score often. The Doc’s committed a total of eight errors and Medford scored eight unearned runs.

The Doc’s took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one on a sacrifice fly by Luke Lucido. Medford starting pitcher Jacob Melton battled some accuracy issues early on, but settled in and only allowed five runners to reach base after the first inning.

The Mustangs tied the game with a run in the second inning and took the lead in the third on a two-out single by James Turnbull. Medford was dangerous with two outs against it. The Mustangs scored three runs with two outs in the first game.

Medford scored first in game two, but the Doc’s responded with two runs in the home half of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead. The advantage didn’t last long as the Mustangs scored twice off of Roseburg starter Collin Warmouth in the second inning.

The Mustangs blew the game open in the fifth and sixth innings with three runs each inning. The Doc’s committed a total of three errors over those two innings and all six runs were unearned.

The losses drop the Doc’s to 2-2 in league play, while Medford remains at the top of the standings at 4-0.

The Doc Stewart’s will next host a traveling team from Fairfield, CA on Thursday. The Expos were in Eugene Wednesday night and beat the Challengers 8-6. After Thursday’s games, Fairfield continues its trip through Oregon with a stop in Medford on Friday.
