KLAMATH FALLS – The Roseburg Doc Stewart’s snapped a two-game losing streak and began the Area 4 league season with a sweep over the Klamath Falls Falcons Tuesday night at Kiger Stadium.

The Doc’s held off a late charge by the Falcons to win the first game of the doubleheader 15-13. Roseburg led 15-6 in the seventh inning, but four errors extended the inning and helped the Falcons score seven runs to cut the deficit to just two. Luke Lucido induced a pop-fly to right field for the final out.

Lucido went 4-for-5 in the game with three singles and a solo-home run. The Doc’s tallied 15 hits in the ballgame and six players finished with multiple hits. Will Shaw picked up the first win of the year for the Doc’s. He tossed six innings and surrendered seven earned runs.

Roseburg (2-2; 2-0 Area 4) had another major offensive outburst in game two and won 16-6. The Doc’s scored eight unearned runs in the third inning to jump out to a 9-2 lead. Klamath Falls (0-4; 0-2 Area 4) scored in three straight innings and trailed 9-5 going to the final frame, but the Doc’s blew the game open in their final at bats.

The Doc’s added another seven runs in the seventh to build a 16-5 advantage and give starting pitcher Zack Mandera a massive lead to work with. Mandera went the distance for a complete game victory. He scattered 10 hits and surrendered five earned runs, while striking out 10 and walking two.

The league season continues Wednesday when the Doc’s host the Medford Mustangs for a doubleheader at Legion Field. Game one begins at 6 p.m. Tune in for broadcast coverage starting at 5:45 p.m. on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score or watch online at 541radio.com.
