LIMA, PERU – Roseburg wrestler Haydn Maley claimed gold at the Junior Pan-American Championships with a 9-0 technical fall in the title match Friday.

Wrestling in the 96 kilos bracket, Maley defeated German Dav Zuniga Ordonez from Honduras for the championship. Maley won his previous matches by fall. In the opening round the graduating Roseburg High senior pinned his opponent in 57-seconds. Maley then went on to pin Douglas Rocha of Brazil in three minutes.

Friday’s tournament was Greco-Roman. Maley will wrestle freestyle in another Pan-Am Championship tournament on Sunday.

Maley, who will wrestle at Stanford next year, is one of eight wrestlers selected for Team USA at the Junior Pan-American Championships.
