ROSEBURG – One of the first signs of summer has arrived. The Doc Stewart’s American Legion baseball team announced its roster for the 2017 season on Sunday night, setting in motion a nearly two month long season.

This year’s roster of local standouts includes a mixture of experience and youth. The squad features nine players that saw time in a Doc’s uniform last summer, including four players that return after their freshman year of college. The rest of the 19-man roster is made up of players getting their first taste of Doc’s baseball.

There are seven Umpqua Basin high schools represented on this year’s roster. Roseburg High boasts the largest contingent with eight players, but there are players from South Umpqua, Douglas, Sutherlin, Glide, Oakland, and Yoncalla.

Some of the returning players include class of 2016 graduates Will Shaw, Shawn Rigsby, Wryland McKnight, and Braxton Beerbohm. Other returning players include Cody Gray, Treven Jacks, Andrew Harrington, Terrell Jacks, and Zack Mandera.

The Doc’s begin the season with a doubleheader at home against the Mid Valley Rockets on Saturday at noon. The Doc’s can once again be heard on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score or watch games throughout the season online at 541radio.com.
