ROSEBURG – After having one of the most successful seasons in Roseburg wrestling history, a few members of the 2016-17 roster have earned more post season recognition, including some major national attention.

Roseburg senior Layne Van Anrooy was selected as the 6A Oregon Wrestler of the Year after finishing the season undefeated and ranked No. 2 nationally at 160 lbs. Van Anrooy was also nominated for the Prep Athlete of the Year award in Oregon and was a second team USA Today All-American.

There were more national awards given to Roseburg’s top wrestlers. Van Anrooy and teammate Haydn Maley were both selected first team USA Scholastic All-Americans. Only 14 wrestlers nationwide make the first team and the Indians placed two on the list. Bennett Mesa was named to the Honorable Mention selections.
