CORVALLIS, Ore. – Jake Thompson scattered four hits and a run in 7 2/3 innings to help send the top-seeded Oregon State baseball team to its 50th win of the season with an 8-2 win over Holy Cross Friday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

With the win, the Beavers will take on third-seeded Yale Saturday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:04 p.m. PT and will air on ESPN3.com.

Thompson struck out 10 and won his 13th game of the season, extending his national lead. The right-hander, who earlier in the day was named Oregon State’s first Academic All-American since 2007, tossed 117 pitches, with 73 strikes. Six of his 10 strikeouts came over his last three innings of work.

He is also now one of just five players in Oregon State history to reach the 13-win plateau. He joins Scott Christman (14 wins in 1993), Andrew Moore (14 in 2013), Dallas Buck (13 in 2006) and Jonah Nickerson (13 in 2006).

Offensively, the Beavers broke the game open with a three-run sixth inning, then made it a six-run game with a Michael Gretler solo home run in the seventh. Nick Madrigal had opened the game’s scoring with an RBI single in the third, followed by Jack Anderson, who drove home the team’s second run of the frame with his 44th hit of the year.

The Beavers tallied 13 hits of five Holy Cross (23-28) pitchers, with Cadyn Grenier, Trevor Larnach, Adley Rutschman and KJ Harrison all posting two.

Brendan King took the loss for the Crusaders, dropping to 5-7. He allowed eight hits and five runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Another 3K-Plus
Oregon State saw 3,508 fans at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field Sunday. Oregon State has now had 18 crowds of 3,000 or more this season. The Beavers have totaled 86,689 fans through 27 home dates this season – 28 games, with one counting as a single-ticket doubleheader. That is an average of 3,210 per home date.

15 Straight
No, not a win streak we’re talking about. The 3,508 in attendance at Friday’s game marked Oregon State’s 15th consecutive sellout at Goss Stadium.

And 17 Straight
The win Friday night did extend the Beavers’ win streak to 17 games, which is the longest active streak nationally. And, of course, the team’s second-longest of the season, six shy of Oregon State’s 23-gamer from late February through mid-April.
