#4 BEAVERTON 9, #20 ROSEBURG 3
The season came to an end for the Roseburg baseball team Wednesday after the Indians lost 9-3 against the Beaverton Beavers in the second round of the state playoffs.

Roseburg pulled ahead 1-0 in the second inning, but Beaverton quickly stole the lead away with two runs in the bottom of the second. The Beavers put the game out of reach by scoring five runs in the fifth on seven hits and two errors.

The Indians finished the year 16-12 and will graduate four seniors.

#13 ELMIRA 13, #4 SOUTH UMPQUA 9
The South Umpqua softball team squandered a late lead and lost 13-9 against Elmira in the first round of the 4A state playoffs on Wednesday. The Lady Lancers led Elmira 7-6 in the final inning, but gave up seven runs to the Falcons and couldn’t recover.

The upset ends South Umpqua’s season. The Lancers finished with a 21-4 record.

#6 GLIDE 8, #11 SALEM ACADEMY 3
Trevor Mehlhoff had four RBI, including two in a four-run fourth inning and the Glide baseball team beat Salem Academy on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the 3A state playoffs. The Wildcats trailed twice in the game, but managed to rally in both occasions. Up next, Glide will hit the road for a playoff game at Dayton on Friday.

#8 UMPQUA VALLEY CHRISTIAN 4, #9 PILOT ROCK 2
UVC sophomore Jacob Luther tossed a complete game, three-hitter and the Monarchs scored all four of its runs in the third inning to defeat Pilot Rock 4-2 in the first round of the 2A/1A baseball state playoffs. The Rockets made life interesting with two runs in the ninth, but the rally was cut short. Umpqua Valley Christian will take on top-seed Dufur in the quarterfinals on Friday.

#6 OAKLAND 10, #11 NESTUCCA 6
The Oakland baseball team scored three times in the third inning to take the lead for good in a 10-6 victory against Nestucca in the first round of the 2A/1A baseball state playoffs. JP Redfield went 4-for-4 in the game and was the winning pitcher for the Oakers. Oakland will next face Regis in the quarterfinals on Friday.

#5 REEDSPORT 8, #12 NORTH DOUGLAS 0
The North Douglas baseball team was limited to just one hit and the Warriors saw their season come to an end with an 8-0 loss against Reedsport in the 2A/1A baseball playoffs Wednesday. Reedsport advances to face Monroe in the quarterfinals.

#6 GLIDE 8, #11 GRANT UNION 6
The Glide softball team held off a late charge by Grant Union to hang on for an 8-6 win in the first round of the 3A softball playoffs. The Wildcats led 8-2 entering the final frame, but two errors allowed the Prospectors to score four runs and close the gap. Glide calmed down and recorded outs on the next three hitters to clinch the victory. Up next, Glide will visit Dayton on Friday.

#4 CENTRAL LINN 6, #13 OAKLAND 5
The Oakland softball team scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to draw within a run, but the Oakers couldn’t pull off the upset over Central Linn. Kylie Bean, Grace Witten, and Seleena Duck all had multiple hits for Oakland in the loss.

#5 NORTH DOUGLAS 10, #12 WALDPORT 0 (5 INN.)
North Douglas pitcher Nicki Derrick didn’t allow a hit in five innings and the Lady Warriors blanked Waldport 10-0 for a first round victory in the 2A/1A state softball playoffs. North Douglas advances to face Central Linn on Friday.
