BANKS, ORE. – Consistency on the golf course led Roseburg senior Cole Dittemore to a top 10 finish at the OSAA 6A state championships on Tuesday.
Playing at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Dittmore shot a 78 in both rounds of the championship event to finish 8-over par and tied for ninth. Dittemore made two birdies in his final round to close out his high school career. His ninth place finish was the best of his career, beating last year’s 13th place finish.
Teammate Bryce Thomason was five strokes worse on Tuesday than he was on day one. The freshman finished tied for 41st at 23-over par.
The Roseburg girls struggled to improve on their scores from day one and fell further down the leaderboard on day two. Ally Sandfort finished tied for 42nd at 42-over par and Avry Hansen was 47-over and finished tied for 52nd.
The Sutherlin boy’s golf team improved one spot to finish seventh in the 4A state competition at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis on Tuesday. Senior Matt Black led the charge, shooting 80 on day two for a sixth place finish. Black made three birdies in his final round, but paired that with 10 bogeys. He finished the tournament 16-over par.
Black’s teammate Jeremiah Scroggins placed 15th at 23-over par. Fellow Bulldogs Bowen Briggs placed 40th, Brayden Burdett finished 47th, and Noah Strempel finished 56th.
The Bulldogs finished 63 strokes behind team champion Scappoose.
