CORVALLIS – The Sutherlin boy’s golf team is in 8th place in the team standings after day one of the 4A state golf tournament at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis Monday.
Senior Matt Black led the way for the Bulldogs, shooting 78 for his first round, which was good enough to put him in a tie for 8th place as an individual. Black starts day two nine strokes behind first place. Senior Jeremiah Scroggins was Sutherlin’s second best golfer on day one. He finished with a score of 83 over his first 18 holes. Senior Bowen Briggs shot a 90, Brayden Burdett shot 97, and freshman Noah Strempel finished day one at 105.
As a team, Sutherlin trails first place Scappoose by 38 strokes. The boys will tee off for the second round Tuesday afternoon.
Roseburg High School’s golfers had their ups and downs on the first day of competition at the 6A state tournament Monday.
Senior Cole Dittemore finished at 4-over par after 18 holes and is tied for 13th going into round two Tuesday. Dittemore starts the day six strokes behind the leader.
Roseburg freshman Bryce Thomason is 9-over and tied for 36th.
On the girl’s side, Roseburg’s Avry Hansen and Ally Sandfort had a tough start to their tournaments. Hansen shot 19-over on day one and is tied for 45th, while Sandfort is right behind her at 46th after shooting 20-over par.
The RHS boys and girls will all tee off Tuesday morning as they wrap-up the season.
